Mozambique - Useful Tips

Mozambique is a beautiful country that offers a combination of pristine beaches and rugged wilderness. To make the best of your trip and to come back home safely, remember these handy tips.

Entry
A valid passport (dates valid up to six months after date of departure) and a return ticket is required to the enter the country.
A visa is required by all foreign nationals except South Africa.
Visas can be purchased upon arrival or beforehand.
A valid, up to date yellow fever vaccination and Yellow Card is required if you are travelling from a yellow fever area.
 
Driving
Left-hand side.
International driver's licence is required.
Be aware of the speed limit as fines are very steep.
Beware of hijackings and road blocks.
Do not drive at night if possible.
Roads are in a poor condition so 4x4's are recommended.

General Information
Electricity is 220-240V, 50 Hz.
Time Zone is Greenwich Mean Time 2 throughout the year.
Official language is Portuguese. English is spoken in most tourist areas.

Health
Malaria is a problem, especially during the rainy season. Consult your local travel clinic for effective prophylactics.
Do not drink the water. Drink only bottled water.
Do not buy food from street vendors or eat food that has not been properly cooked or peeled.

Money
The local currency is the Meticle.
Money can be exchanged at airports or banks.
US Dollars and South African Rands are accepted in many locations.
Credit cards are accepted in most locations.
